Safeguarding and Child Protection

At Gymnasium Livingston, we are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all our students. Our safeguarding policy outlines the principles and procedures that guide our efforts to protect students and promote their welfare.

Safeguarding Definitions:

• Protecting Students from Maltreatment: We take proactive steps to prevent any form of harm or abuse to our students.

• Preventing Impairment of Students’ Health or Development: We prioritize the physical and emotional well-being of every student.

Core Safeguarding Principles:

• Collective Responsibility: Everyone at Gymnasium Livingston shares the responsibility for safeguarding students.

• Equal Rights to Protection: Regardless of age, gender, ability, culture, race, language, religion, or sexual identity, all students have equal rights to safety.

• Student’s Best Interests: We always consider what is best for the student.

• Safe Practices: Our staff adhere to professional and safe practices outlined in our Safeguarding Policy. 

• Support and Reporting: Students and staff involved in safeguarding issues receive appropriate training and support.

Our Commitments:

1. Student Development: We support each student’s development, fostering security, confidence, and independence.

2. Safe Environment: Our school provides a safe, secure, and respectful environment where students feel comfortable approaching adults if they need assistance.

3. Awareness and Reporting: We raise staff awareness about safeguarding responsibilities, ensuring prompt identification and reporting of any potential cases of abuse or neglect.

4. Monitoring and Support: We systematically monitor students who may be at risk and provide necessary support.

5. Collaboration: We work closely with external agencies, including OSPOD, medical professionals, and the Police, to ensure effective safeguarding.

6. Communication: Staff members communicate promptly in cases of suspected abuse or neglect.

7. Security Checks: All adults with access to students undergo current security checks, aligning with our Safer Recruitment procedures.
